Microsoft Windows operating systems provide startup mode options to deal with the problems that can be fairly difficult to troubleshoot if the system does not boot to normal Windows. In a situation where there is blue screen error or nothing on the screen, after booting to the desktop, it becomes necessary to make Windows bypass some of its complex routines so that the system can start up.
Microsoft Windows provides alternate startup modes for troubleshooting purposes. A screen displaying the list of options is displayed when the F8 key is pressed on the Windows Logo or on hearing the system beep sound.
These startup options allow the system to boot with the most basic files and drivers. If the computer does not start successfully using any of the given start up options then, it is most likely that the problem is with either the operating system core files or services or a hardware device.
