The device not found errors might be caused when the device is uninstalled from the system but its device setting may still remain in Windows. In such a case the device will have to be installed and then reinstalled according to vendor guidelines to remove all the device settings from Windows. Or the device reference lines can also be removed from the Win.ini, System.ini and registry to resolve the error. This is not recommended as this might lead to further complications.

The errors may also be caused when the device drivers are not installed for a newly installed device or the drivers are corrupt or missing for an existing device. In such a case the most compatible device driver should be installed for the device after removing any pre existing drivers.

In very rare cases the device not found error could be due to a hardware device failure. For example a failed modem or a Network card installed on the PCI slot of a system can cause this error when the operating system is trying to initialize the device.
