A driver is a piece of software that informs a device as to how to communicate with a computer and also allows the computer to communicate with the device. It also manages the access to a hardware device, taking the device in and out of service, setting hardware parameters and also transmitting data between memory and the device.

There are various kinds of devices that can be connected to a computer and there are much more hardware vendors who manufacture these devices. Setting up a device and configuring them appropriately is an important phase of installation. At times there would be problems installing the correct device drivers for the device because of issues like compatibility and resource conflicts.

In the lessons that follow, we will learn about different types of installations and configuring the device drivers in the operating system that will help you to setup the devices easily.
