A+ Study Guide: Device Drivers

You can also manually install the device drivers by an alternate way. For Windows 9x computer:

  1. Right-click My Computer icon located on the desktop' select Properties from the popup menu.

  2. On the Device Manager tab, select the device from the list for which the driver needs to be updated. Double-click on the device to launch the device Properties window.

    On the device's properties screen, select General tab and click Reinstall Driver button,

  3. Follow the steps until you reach the point where it says, you can specify Location of the driver. Here you can either type in the directory where in you've extracted the driver to or click on the Browse button and navigate to the directory.

    For Windows 2000 and Windows XP:

  4. Right-click My Computer icon located on the desktop' select Properties from the popup menu.

  5. On the Hardware Tab click Device Manager button to launch Device Manager screen.

  6. On the Device Manager screen, select the device from the list for which the driver needs to be updated.

    Double-click on the device to launch the device Properties window.

  7. On the device's properties screen, select Driver tab and click Update Driver button to launch Hardware Update Wizard.

  8. On the Hardware Update Wizard screen, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)

  9. Click Next, to specify the location of the updated driver.

  10. Check the checkbox against Include this location in the search:, click the Browse button.

  11. On the Browse For Folder screen, navigate to the driver's location and click OK button when after selection.
