A+ Study Guide: Device Drivers

C. Manually install a device Driver

Steps for installing the device drivers manually:

  1. Plug in the non-Plug and Play device to your computer.

  2. Open Add new Hardware wizard in the Control Panel.

  3. Click the Next button.

  4. Click Add a new hardware device, and then click the Next button.

  5. Then do one of the following:

    1. Choose Search for any newly installed hardware and install automatically (Recommended) in case you want Windows to try to detect the new non-Plug and Play device you want to install.

    2. Click Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced). In case you know the type and model of the device you are installing and you wish to select it from a list of devices.

  6. Click the Next button, and then follow the on screen instructions.

  7. You may be prompted to reboot after the installation is complete then reboot the computer.
