Non-Plug and Play

The process that Windows uses during its search for legacy or non-Plug and Play devices on a computer is Detection. This is usually used during Windows Setup and at any time you use the Add New Hardware tool from Control Panel, to search for new hardware installed on your computer. Windows creates a log file named Detlog.txt in the root folder of the boot drive (eg: C:\ where c is the boot drive) during the detection process. This file is helpful and is often used when troubleshooting problems related with hardware detection.
