CompTIA A Plus Study Guide: Installing Windows

Application Compatibility

Most of the application compatibility problems faced by developers are basically due to few new features and changes made to the operating system. In most of the cases, applications developed for earlier versions of Windows perform well on Windows 2000 and Windows XP. However, as Windows 2000 and Windows XP are fundamentally new technologies, it still needs to be tested for the existing applications on the new operating system. Although you are currently using Microsoft Windows NT, you should not assume that all the applications will work in the same way. Test to determine whether your existing applications still provide the best possible experience to your users should also be performed. Most of the compatibility issues found in the existing application could be resolved by making complete use of the new operating system enhancements.
