Plug and play complaint feature of operating system makes it easy to install the device. All you need to do is plug the device and the operating system will detect the device and install the drivers for it. You can also Hot plug the device in Windows 2000 and XP. The operating system automatically detects the presence of a new device and loads the device drivers. The advantage with Windows 2000 and XP is that you don't have to interrupt what you are doing and the device will get installed automatically. All you need to make sure is the device supports plug and play feature and the device is compatible with the operating system.

If any device is not installed while setting up the operating system then you need to go into the device manager and install the devices manually. You can know this by going into the device manager and checking for any device which has a yellow exclamation mark.
