Disk preparation is the next important thing after you meet the minimum hardware requirements to install the operating system in the computer. Disk preparation is not only about disk partitioning and formatting the disk. It also includes backing up old data in the computer etc.

Here are a few tips you may want to consider while preparing the disk:

  1. Backed up all the essential data (music, photos etc.) to a CD or a storage device to restore the data

  2. Backup some applications.

  3. Backup up device drivers if you do not have the installation disk.

  4. You will require a boot disk or start up disk to install the new operating system. Make sure you have one with you.
