CompTIA A Plus Study Guide: Installing Windows

Hardware compatibility and minimum requirements

Hardware Compatibility is the list of devices that are designed to work perfectly with the Operating System. It is normally called as HCL (Hardware Compatibility List). The Operating system's vendor gives the HCL list. The list helps you to check your hardware components compatibility or how well they perform with the existing software. You will need this list when you want to upgrade the operating system. It will help you decide if the present hardware is good enough to handle the new OS or you need to purchase or upgrade your hardware components before you begin the upgrade.

The next thing you need to check is the minimum hardware requirements to install or upgrade new operating system. Every operating system is designed to perform much better and do more things than the existing one. It is not recommended to ignore the minimum requirements because the computer can become instable any time.
