System Restore enables restoring your computer by creating restore points automatically that is based on a preset schedule or it may be in response to system events such as installing a new application or driver. Restore points can also be created manually as and when needed. It is necessary that you log on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to use System Restore.
You can restore your computer to a state prior to the occurrence of a specific problem using this option. It monitors changes to certain system and application files and allows you to recover from problems that might be caused due to incorrect system settings, faulty drivers, incompatible applications and so on, without risking personal files, such as documents or e-mail.
It does not change data files when reverted to a particular restore point; it simply rolls back critical system files and the Registry. You can let Computer Restore automatically create restore points, or you can create them manually. Because System Restore does not track file changes, it has no impact on performance.
