A+ Study Guide: System Files & Disk Partitions

File Encryption

Encryption refers to an algorithm that encodes plain text into non-readable form or cipher text thereby providing security to data. The receiver of the encrypted text uses a "key" to decrypt the message, converting it to its original plain text form.

File encryption was basically designed for military purpose with the aim of safe guarding critical data from enemies but with the boom in internet many people are using Encryption algorithms.

Many types of encryption are available today. It is classified either as strong or weak basing on the size of the encryption bit.
