A+ Study Guide: System Files & Disk Partitions

Navigate the Directory Structure

It is very easy to navigate through Directories in GUI based operating systems as you can see the icons for folders and files. All you need to know is the location where the directory is stored in the computer. Then open My Computer, select the drive, and open it. You will see a list of all folders and files and you can select the folder or file you want to open.

In DOS based operating systems, you need to use the CD command to change or navigate through the directory. CD means Change Directory. The syntax is CD <name of the directory>. For example, use CD\ to go the root directory.
