Extended Partition

The extended DOS partition is like a container, which holds all the logical partitions in it. The Extended DOS partition does not hold Primary DOS partition. The reason being DOS supports only 4 primary partitions and 24 extended partitions to be created. It is recommended that you only make 12 extended partitions because the performance of the hard disk can go bad.

Steps to create the Extended Partition:

  1. Launch the FDISK utility.

  2. Select option 1 on the first screen.

  3. Select option 2 on the second screen.

  4. Define the disk space.

  5. You will get a warning stating that no logical drive is defined, so you must create a logical drive.
