Windows XP "Experience" also known as Windows NT 5.1 is the Microsoft Windows operating system's current desktop version. The two more commonly available editions of Windows XP are:

  1. Windows XP Home Edition which is targeted at home users and

  2. Windows XP Professional which has additional features such as Security Center, which allows check the status of important security elements -Windows Firewall, Automatic Updates, and virus protection software.

  3. XP also has improved performance over previous versions and allows running more programs at the same time.

The Windows 95/98, and Windows Me operating systems that came before Windows XP, were designed for home based desktop PCs but lacked reliable memory protection.

While Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 were aimed at the corporate, professional, and server markets but were not as well-supported by game and multimedia developers. Windows XP is an evolution of Windows 2000 with additional features for home users.
