New Key Features of 98:

  • Improved new looking Windows (user interface)

  • A button for switching to desktop "Show Desktop" was placed on quick launch tool bar

  • Integrated Microsoft Internet Explorer in Windows Explorer and Help System

  • Windows 98 was improved to supporting more hardware than Windows 95

The following are the new features in Windows 98:

  • Personal Web Server - PWS supports Common Gateway Interface (CGI) and Internet Server Application Programming Interface (ISAPI) applications. That means you can use it as a staging server to test Web applications before promoting them to the real-time server.

  • Faster Shutdown - The time taken for the system to shutdown has been dramatically reduced in Windows 98.

Windows 98 was succeeded by Windows Me, which was followed by Windows XP Home.
