A+ Study Guide: Networking

Addressing
What is Network Addressing?

To communicate across a network, terminals within the system should be able to identify one another. An identifier generally is in the form of a name or an address.

All types of networks such as LAN, MAN and WAN use Internet addresses.

An Internet address, mostly referred to as the IP address can be divided into two parts:

  • Network address.

  • Host address.

The network address part is used for the network identification. The host address is used to identify a node within the network. To form the internet address, a network address is concatenated with a host address and it identifies a node within a network uniquely.
