A+ Study Guide: Printers

Connections

Printer connections can range from simple parallel or serial cable to network cable that connects a printer in a network. It is imperative that these cables be well shielded in order to avoid magnetic or electrical disturbances, which cause garbled printouts and even damage the hardware.

Further, proper care has to be taken in plugging in the connectors onto the right ports lest the computer might fail to recognize the printer. Always remember not to force a connector into a port if it doesn't slide in smoothly. Connectors are tailor made for the ports they are supposed to communicate with; therefore, they connect easily without much effort.

In the case of network printers, the network protocol has to be properly configured to facilitate a smooth and error free flow of information.
