A+ Study Guide: Printers

Paper Feed and Output

Under this category, the printer does not feed paper, feeds multiple pages, or the paper is jammed.

Cause
  • The paper feed rollers may be worn which causes the rollers to slip on the paper.

  • A sensor flag may be in the wrong position or not moving freely, or the drive gears could be worn or jammed.

  • May be something is blocking the paper, perhaps a cluster of cake sprinkles from an office party, a tuft of hair, a paper clip, etc.

Solution

Click the 'Eject' option in the printer software or the 'Eject' button on the printer itself.

Also make sure:

  • Paper isn't too old or creased.

  • Paper is loaded as per the instructions in the printer manual.

  • Edge guides are set correctly.

  • Paper isn't too thin or rough.

  • Use paper that meets the paper requirement for the printer as indicated in the user manual.
