Display Devices

Having seen what the various storage devices are, let's now have a look at the display devices.

Display device is the visual output device of a computer, commonly called a monitor.

  • A monitor looks like a television.
  • The monitor will display what the user is doing, so he or she can see it before producing a hard copy.
  • The resolution or clarity of the image on the monitor depends on the number of individual dots displayed on the screen and the distance between them.
  • Each dot is a picture element (or pixel) and the distance between them is the dot pitch. The more advanced the graphics the user will be using, the better resolution required.
  • Two popular kinds of viewing screens are cathode ray tubes and flat-panel displays.
  • A color monitor can display text or graphics in color. Opens More Info in a new browser window
