Virus is a program that modifies
the contents of other programs
running on a PC. A virus creates
multiple copies of its code
inside the other program’s
code.
A virus cannot infect a computer
unless it is booted from an
infected diskette or an infected
program is run on it. A virus
attack can occur when you download
files from Internet.
To prevent a virus attack,
always make a backup of important
files. Avoid booting a computer
from a diskette or any other
secondary storage media that
may be infected with a virus.
Keep all diskettes write-protected
unless you need to write to
them. Scan the drive containing
new software for infection
before you run it for the
first time. Use the latest
version of antivirus and update
it from time to time.
To perform a virus scan on
your hard disk, delete files
which are not important and
therefore not used often.
Empty the contents of Recycle
Bin. Empty the cache in Internet
Explorer. This would save
time while scanning the hard
disk for viruses.
You can automate running
of antivirus software. You
can also set the frequency
of running this software as
daily or weekly as per your
requirement.
